Summit Tunnel Conservation Association
The purpose of the Summit Tunnel Conservation Association is to protect and preserve the 1867 Transcontinental Railroad Tunnel Area (located in the Donner Summit Area) in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
About STCA
The National Trust for Historic Preservation listed summit tunnels 6, 7 and summit camp as one of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places for 2021. Those that make the list are important examples of our nation’s heritage that are at risk of destruction or irreparable damage.
Our association seeks to help create a national historic landmark status along with the establishment of an interpretive center. We intend to work cooperatively with the Tahoe National Forest, the Union Pacific Railway and other entities to preserve this incredibly historic site.
